vmware player and alsa device

I am running a music composition software in my guest Windows XP on Ubuntu 12.04. My audio works great, but I am facing delay issues because of Pulse. I have tried running pasuspender, but then there is no audio at all, and it does not complain about a missing device in either case. What is the best way to force it to use Alsa in native mode, and not through Pulse Audio?

Is there anybody who knows anything about it, or could guide me into the right directions?

The simple answer was to change the device to hw:0 . And that forces it to use the alsa device directly. So to use a second sound card directly, one would define hw:1 as the device.
