Dear all
Hi
what are difference between these type of vmotion :
X (+ Cross vSwitch) that is in standard license
X (+ Cross vSwitch/ Cross vCenter/Long Distance) that is in enterprise plus license

Cross vCenter - migrate virtual machines between vCenter Server instances.
Long Distance - migrate virtual machines over long distances (requirements: A RTT (round-trip time) latency of 150 milliseconds or less, between hosts)
The cross vCenter and long distance vMotion features require an Enterprise Plus license.
without aEnterprise Plus license, you can migrate the VM only within one vСenter, - within the same site. With a license, we can migrate VM between different data centers.
Cross vCenter - migrate virtual machines between vCenter Server instances.
Long Distance - migrate virtual machines over long distances (requirements: A RTT (round-trip time) latency of 150 milliseconds or less, between hosts)

so thanks:
cross switch is means migrate vms between 2 VDS on one vCenter?
and about long distance is that your means from A RTT ping time between to host had to 150 ms or less ?

it is difficult to answer in essence to two different questions.
about 150 ms - or rather still 100 ms. Initially it was stated that 150, then 100 ms. So to understand the long-distance vMotion:
In vSphere 4.1, vMotion was supported only when the latency between the source and destination ESXi/ESX hosts was less than 5 ms RTT. Metro vMotion was introduced in vSphere 5.0: the maximum supported round trip time latency between two hosts was extended 10ms with vSphere Enterprise Plus license.
In vSphere 6, long-distance vMotion will be possible with up to 100 ms RTT between two hosts, allowing cross-continental migrations.
so thanks but 2 question :
1- cross switch is means migrate vms between 2 VDS on one vCenter?
2- you said " in vSphere 5.0: the maximum supported round trip time latency between two hosts was extended 10ms with vSphere Enterprise Plus license"
is that your means in vsphere 5 if latency between 2 hosts is more than 10ms can not vmotion between 2 hosts ?
BR
When we talk about 5, 10, 100 ms we are talking about migration between cities and continents. Because in the case of hosts managed by one vCenter, all hosts and vCenter are in one place and the delays are minimal. Otherwise, nothing will work.
so thanks
just is my imagine from cross switch migration correct with vsphere standard license :
1- cross switch is means migrate vms between 2 VDS on one vCenter?
BR
Cross vSwitch vMotion not only works, but also complements Cross vCenter vMotion and Long distance vMotion.
The following Cross vSwitch vMotion migrations are possible:
Cross vCenter Server vMotion requirements are listed here:
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2106952
You write "Cross vSwitch that is in standard license".
Cross vSwitch vMotion is the migration between vSS and vDS in different variations.
But there is no vDS in the standard license.
so thanks
i asked that question about cross switch vmotion because in vmware official certificate guide book on page 6 said with standard license you can vmotion cross swtch but with enterprise plus license you can cross switch / cross vCenter / long distance vmotion now i am confused :
i understand
cross vCenter need enterprise plus license and for vmotion between 2 vCenter instance
long distance need enterprise plus for vmotion between such as 2 country
but cross switch i think vmotion in one vCenter between switches
is that correct ?
BR
Babak
"but cross switch i think vmotion in one vCenter between switches"
- Yes.
In one vCenter and between different vCenter.
Official certificate guide book - VCP6-DCV Official Cert Guide (Covering Exam #2V0-621)?
I myself wonder what they meant.
finally i could not understand cross switch is vmotion between one vCenter or 2 vCenter ???
but in book said standard license just can do vmotion in cross switch now you are saying cross switch can vmotion between 2 vCenter
i aM REALY CONFUSED PLEASE SEE ATTACH PIC FROM vmware certificate official guide
Look at the real scenarios for using Cross-vSwitch vMotion:
1. Cross-vSwitch vMotion between one vCenter: video - VMware vSphere 6.0 vMotion - Crossing vCenter vMotion - YouTube
(do not pay attention to the title, it is incorrect).
2. Cross-vSwitch vMotion between 2 vCenter: video - VMware vSphere 6.0 vMotion - Cross-vSwitch vMotion - YouTube
thanks
but second video is cross vcenter vmotion not cross vswitch vmotion

before migration:
after migration:
cross vcenter vmotion AND cross vswitch vmotion can work together.
