VM turn back to delivered ESXi without error

We moved a VM in offline mode from one ESXi to another with the same hardware and configuration. After only 40 seconds, it was moved back without there being an error message or other entries in the log that explain this behavior.

what's the status in the tasks pane? did it show successful?

check the inventory of the vm > is there any resource attached (cdrom, disk etc) to it that is not available on the destination host. 

after checking try to migrate again and keep an eye on the tasks window

The problem was that Guest Introspection was not present on the host because it was not installed properly. Unfortunately, the error was not obvious. After we installed it, it was again possible to migrate VM to the host.
