Auto Update Tools on all Windows VMs that are 2012 or newer only

We need to update VMWare Tools on all of our VMs (thousands) but only on VMs that are Windows Server 2012 and newer. Does anyone have a CLI command or otherwise on how we can set tools to auto update only on guests that are Windows Server 2012 or newer?
