You might have enabled vSphere HA VM Monitoring to this virtual machine.

Due to which vSphere HA restarted your Linux VM. Check your HA cluster "VM Monitoring Status" settings

Okay, So there may have been a problem in your environment or your configuration if vSphere HA did that. A little more info is needed though to give a proper answer.

  • What part of HA restarted the VM?
  • Did you observe this in the events or logs?
  • Did you not expect this?
  • Is VMware Tools installed in the VM? (recommended if you have VM Monitoring enabled)
  • Was there any kind of network issue during the restart? (logs should show why the VM was restarted
