Adding non standard hardware.

Hello,

Is it possible to add additional hardware to a client/Guest OS that isn't in the hardware list? Specifically I need to add a dialogic card.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi

This is unfortunately not possible. The current PCI standards do not provide a way for VMware to virtualise such hardware while still protecting VMs from each other - that is, one VM might initiate a DMA transfer to/from a device from within another VM's address space, either intentionally or by accident.

For this reason, it's not likely that this type of virtualisation will be possible soon. There are devices that have started to introduce this type of functionality - but the standards that are there are generally related to networking (NetQueue) and storage (NPIV) adapters since there is a very high demand for this functionality in those fields.

So for now your call centre-type application is stuck to physical servers, I'm afraid...

No it is not possible - typically specialized cards prevent you form virtualizing a physical machine -

unfortunately not, a VMware Guest has a very small hardware set. and telphony cards are not on the list.
