Buslogic to LSI Conversion

Hi All,

For machines you have converted from Physical to virtual do you guys change the SCSI driver, when I attempt to do so to OS blue screens. I know the preferred driver for server 2003 is LSI correct or does it

make a difference?

Thanks,

Greg

LSI is a better SCSI driver for W2k3... Im guessing your blue screen is an inaccesible boot device error.

Try adding a second SCSI card to the VM, make it LSI logic. Windows will then detect it in and you can get the proper drivers working for it. Then you should be able to swap the other SCSI card and windows will boot.

Yes, I have done this. Add the driver to the guest.

reboot and upon succesful boot remove the bus logic.

I alway use a snapshot just in case I make a mistake

During the conversion I check "install VMware tools" so the LSI driver is available.

I change the adapter type to LSI before powering on the VM after a conversion. VC will ask you if you want to convert the disk, then choose yes. Works great with W2k3 VMs for sure.

Okay... so

How did you add a second controller to the VM? It doesn't look like there is anyway to do this.

What drivers are you adding to the guest OS?
