Does it matter if I use Notepad or Wordpad to open lic files?
No it should not matter which you use
Thanks!
no the license file is a Text file saved in Windows format so it renders correctly in Notepad or Wordpad.
Thank you for the responses. I had heard that the way that carriage returns are handled differently could affect the file.
I think you answered the question though ... thank you both. How do I assign "correct answer" and "helpful answer" to your responses?

Since you didn't mark the post as a question, you cannot. Something to remember for next time.
doh denied again
Although, I have ran into problems using Notepad not processing the carraige returns (makes it more difficult to manually manipulate the license file).
The license files by default are in UNIX format, without DOS/Windows newlines at the end. Do not edit license files using Notepad. Use Wordpad or a third-party text editor that supports UNIX newlines.

The license file, atleast when used by the FlexLM license server, seems to be able to handle the license file whether it's stored in unix or dos format.
As the license file is in UNIX by default it would be bad to edit that file in notepad, not seeing the line feeds. But if you convert the file to dos format and then edit it in notepad it seems to work just fine.
Lars
flexLM license files are fine edited in either wordpad or Notepad. the license server can read either format and does not error.
