This question might sound silly and I'm not sure if this is the right place for it.
It's actually about the SAN switch I use, it's a HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch that came with the 8GB Simple SAN Connection Kit. When trying to log in via the Java based web interface, I don't get a normal login dialog but a "Add a new fabric"-dialog. Since I didn't do much configuration there in the last time, I'm not sure if it was like that all the time, so I'm not sure if I influence any existing fabric by logging in with this dialog. Just to be sure I'm asking if I can use it without changing anything, because it is a productive system.
The dialog provides 2 fields for name and password and 3 buttons "Add fabric", "Close" and a non functional "Help" button
Thanks for your help in advance

Hi, thanks for your response. But no, I just go to http://<switch-ip>/
It's loading a java applet and showing me this "Add a new fabric" dialog. Can't find any reference to a switchexplorer in the html document either.
Hi,
There is obviously two ways of configuring this switch, please see http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02256379/c02256379.pdf
One way is doing it the browser-based way and another is installing a GUI-client on your PC.
I hope they don't add this to their other SAN-switches aswell... Stupid bloating.

Thanks, must have overseen that option. Unfortunately I also have to fight with the SSCM, because it won't run on our newest Win2k8 R2 x64 installation... I'll install it somewhere else.
But still it would be nice to know if it's save to login at the mentioned dialog.
