I have a clean build of 2003 Ent SP1, and have installed VirtualCenter 2.5 in eval mode, with the default SQL 2005 Express.
The VirtualCenter Server service won't start, and error event ID 100 is logged with "Failed to initialize VMware VirtualCenter. Shutting down...". Is this a problem with VC or SQL?
Any help would be appreciated!
For troubleshooting purposes, you can open a dos prompt on the vc server, cd in to the vc install folder, and run vpxd -s. This will try to start vc in console mode, so you can see the startup in debug mode, which may give you more info as to the problem.

You must have the SQL Native Driver installed for the SQL Connection, not TCP/IP etc. Have a look at this:

That worked a treat - the output showed there were multiple components configured to run on port 443. The service starts up fine now, many thanks!
