Hi All,
I have a question regading HA clusters which I hope sombody can help with.
I'm planning on implementing a three node HA cluster where the first host is located in a good server room (UPS+cooling) while the second and third hosts are in a lesser (DR) server room.
I want to run all my production VM's on the first host and development VM's on the others. In the event of the first host failing, the production VM's will failover to the other hosts.
Is there a way to affiliate VM's with a specific host to prevent a production VM being powered-on in a development host?
I'm aware that I could simply vmotion the VM back to its intended host but this is not ideal.
Thanks Dave
Yes, if you're not running DRS (or have DRS in Partial Automated mode) VMs will stay on the host you selected for them originally. With vSphere you can also specify the failover host for an HA cluster, so you could sort of "tier" your failover. I'm assuming you have shared storage between all these hosts.

You can manually put all production VMs to host 1, but if you have DRS cluster there is no solution to keep VMs from migration and still provide failover.
