Shared SAS backplane, is this supported?

I recently spent a few days exploring MS Hyper-V 2012 (and rejecting it as a viable solution for our company)

The excersise did introduce me to a storage configuration I was not previously aware of:  With the right Backplane you can split the dual data channels of a SAS hard drive and connect each to a different physical host.

Can anyone tell me if this storage scenario is supported by VMware.
If so, could you let me know what key words to search for in order to find a list of support storage controllers.

This is a rather common use case for smaller deployments (small / branch office) that I've used for cost saving techniques, such as with an HP MSA (P2000).

Search the Compatibility Guide for SAS Direct Attach. Here's an example link for the MSA:

http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=san&productid=17132&deviceCa...

Also, page 15 of this doc shows what you're looking to do.

I have never tried to do this with SAS storage inside a physical server.

But I do use Shared SAS storage from a Dell MD3200 (which works great BTW!)
