I have a 4.1 Virtual Center Server. Just taking it over and learning as I go. Vcenter was never installed on this machine, so even the most mundane tasks like patching or cloning are a chore. I created a vanilla 2003 server to a host a trial version of Vcenter 5.0 to test its usefullness especially patching. I installed Microsoft net 3.5 sp1 as well as MSI 4.5. Everything goes fine, but once it gets to installing apache service, it rolls back. I would have copied the log if I could but the machine is on the high side and I cannot copy anything...not allowed. DOD. What can I provide to make it easier to assiste me? Can VC 5.0 work with ESX-I 4.1 on a server 2003 machine.
Welcome to the Community - vCenter is supported on Windows 2003 64 bit only - Is your 2003 installation 64 bit or 32 bit?
Does the server meet the requirements?
André
Hi,
vCenter Server 5.0 requires a 64-bit operating system and cannot be installed on a 32-bit operating system.
vCenter Server 5.0 is compatible to all ESX 4.x and ESXi 4.0 and ESXi5.0 hosts. Except ESX/ESXi 4.0 Update 2 is not supported for use with vCenter Server 5.0

Sorry for the delay friends and I do appreciate the input thus far. It is a 4.1 esxi host version 348481. I am using Server 2003 x64, just a bare bones install.
there is an installation log. check the end of the log to see why it rolled out the installation.
