Ok. I've looked thru lots of pages of discussions about vlan tagging and everyone says it can be done. Our network team trunked the 10G connection and we can see several vlans. On my vsphere server, I set the VLAN ID to all, but the problem is, I can't find where on the windows guest machines to tag which vlan. Am i being dense? Probably. Does anyone have a document that illustrates where to make the changes?
Thanks
Ken
This document is from ESX 3 but it should help you.
When a portgroup is created on a vSwitch you can specify the VLAN ID....if you are using the standard vSwitch each vlan ID would get is own portgroup.
Example...
Portgroup = vm_portgroup_vlan445
VLAN ID = 445
In my VMware environment there are over 800 VLANs. Now that vSphere supports PVLANs on a vDS we are moving away from traditional VLANs. You can also create a trunked portgroup on a vDS. In order to use PVLANs/trunked portgroups you need to have enterprise plus licenses.
Here is a KB on VM VLAN tagging...
IMHO...I would go with VLAN tagging at the ESX level instead of the VM....but this depends on how many VLANs you are going to use
