How to restore a backup from Snapshot to a server and its Challenges in doing so?
Also please explain the MERGE Snapshot concepts ...

If you are referring to a VMware snapshot of a virtual disk it is bit a backup of the disk but log file recording changed to the underlying virtual disk -
When you merge a snapshot those changes are merged on to the underlying virtual disk - if discard the snapshot the virtual disk will revert to the exact state the disk was in when the snapshot was taken -

just keep one thing mind whenever u are working with VMware...don't consider VM snapshot as a backup ..its just like a restore point..
use other backup solution to taking care of vm backup. To merge snapshot is best practice do it one bye one like newer to older..

Restore snapshot, or we say commit the DELTA files to the original VMDK. This process is actually create a second snapshot. All writes that the VM performs now, go into the second snapshot and let the first snapshot commit to the original VMDK.
