Hi,
I ordered two new Servers: Dell PowerEdge R710 with two dual port broadcom nic´s .
In addition to that, we installed an Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter.
While installing the esx4 (esx 4.0.0 update 1) system, the intel card is not recognized by esx ..
Even after the complete installation, it shows only the 4 broadcom nic´s ...
What do I have to do to get this cards running ?
I read something about the irq sharing problems, so I disabled all USB Ports in the BIOS, but without success.
I also changed the pci-express slot without success 😕
Any hints? Maybe something that I have forgotten ??
Please help!
Did you install the drivers for the adapter during ESX install?

no, because I could not find it on the vmware website, just for esx3.5 ..
I looked into the compatibility matrix and found this:
Model: Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter
Device Type: Network
Partner Name: DELL
ESX / ESXi 4.0 U1 igb version 1.2.44.3inbox
So I thought the driver is already in the esx installer ...
I will try and keep you posted!
worked! Thanks a lot!!
Hi PKaufmann,
I have the same configuration, and the same probleme too.
Can you remember what you did to resolve this problem.
Did you installed this driver from a vmware driver CD, or something else ?
You need to install the drivers from the VMWare driver CD.
For vSphere, they are located here:

I installed the driver while installing the esx system ...
