Cant' open a .vmem file in VM Workstation 9-Please Help!

I recently downloaded VMWorkstation 9 and it won't open a .vmem file. Everytime I try, an error message says to open with the configuration file .vmx instead. How do open the .vmem file and another .vmss file? Please help!

Welcome to the Community,

Why would you want to open these files? These files are used "internally" by VMware Workstation for memory backups and suspended VMs.

All you need to register a VM in the inventory is the VM's configuration (.vmx) file.

Thanks for your response. I'm trying to open this file because it's what the extension is and I need to open to study for a test. Not sure how to go about doing this - any suggestions?

Both files just contain binary data (basically a memory dump), and the most you can probably do is to use a hex editor to view the data.

PS: Discussion successfully moved from VMware ESXi 5 to VMware Workstation
