Network issue on Nested ESXi 5 host

I will say I'm failry new to the VM space.... but here is what I have...

A workstation running VM wokstation version 8,  I have succesfully installed a ESX 5.0 host in it. I am having issues in getting it connected to my network.

To have network connectivity inside the vmware world I have had to chose NAT which gives the machine an IP of 192.168.186.131.  My main network I'm trying to connect it to has an ip range of 192.168.15.xxx.  I have tried hard coding things with IP's, and chosing the different network options to try an make it work.  I'm assuming there is something that I'm missing here, how do I have it pickup at a minimum an IP from my existing DHCP server running on my windows 2008 server?

Hello and welcome to the communities.

Bridged should allow you to get an address from your DHCP server, assuming your Workstation install is on a machine connected to that network segment. If not, check for things like firewalls (local and upstream) and physical switch port security settings.

Good Luck!

Brian -

Thank you for the answer.....to further clarify for folks who might run into the samething I did.  My workstation is actually a high end laptop, the network adapter for the laptop itself was getting the IP addy through the wireless card vs the LAN port.  Once I plugged in the cable, and changed to the bridge mode everything is now getting an IP now.

A side note, I ordered the book that its appears you authored yesterday!
