Upgrading host to Windows 8 Release Preview

Hi All,

Just upgraded my Windows 7 host to Windows 8 release preview and none of my VMs can resume. Where can I find any info on this issue?

Have you tried to reinstgall WS on the new host?  First, uninstall  the aready  installed version (there could be problems here - much discussion about them).  If you can reinsrtall WS you may be able  to open the existing VM's - worth a try.

No, it did not help.

The same error message:

Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings. To fix the problem, increase the amount of physical memory for all virtual machines to 2311 MB....

could you plese let us know how many vm you re runningon one physical system and conguration of sysytem .

as error messgae poping for RAM please assign sufficent RAM atleast 4 gb to vm then check it .

Dell Precision T7500 with 12GB RAM and 300GB disk: this is a super machine.

Before upgrading to Windows 8 Release preview I could do whatever I  wanted with my VMachines...

Check this article  from Dell it may help or search the Web for ways to back out of a "bad" Windows 8 upgrade.

I can't believe that I am the only facing this problem. Many Windows developers have installed this preview and are VMWare customers....

Maybe you just have stale lock directories ?
Maybe just discarding the suspended state is enough ?

The error I get is explained in the third post of this thread. But I am sure that your suggestion could help. How do I discard the suspended state? I look for it from a long time.

Removed the *.vmem files and nothing changes. Same error message...

You should find a vmss-file in the directory - delete it and try again

Only the XP virtual machine had this file and after changing it no improvement, sorry. Anything else I can try?

Do you mean in the vmPerfmon.ini file? On my Windows 8 Release Preview host there is no config.ini

Sorry to say that even with the following config.ini, it does not work:

installerDefaults.autoSoftwareUpdateEnabled = "yes"
installerDefaults.componentDownloadEnabled = "yes"
installerDefaults.dataCollectionEnabled = "yes"

prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "FALSE"
prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "0"

Similar issue, everything was working correctly on Windows 8 before upgrading vmware workstation.  After upgrading VMware workstation on Windows 8, received “Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings.”    Solution was to Right click on VMware workstation and run as Administrator.
