vSAN Witness Requirements

Hi.

I will be really appreciated if You could help me with some case.

I have a 3 node vSAN cluster that run on 8.0.3

The FTT is RAID 0/FTT0.

I would like to use RAID 1/FTT1.

Should I deploy a vSAN witness to act as the 3rd host and allow us to use RAID1 policy?

At the begining You should check CPU compability

@MikeSmarz If it is a 3-node cluster and all nodes have Disk-Groups/Storage-Pools then that is sufficient for creating RAID1,FTT=1 objects already and doesn't require any additional node or Witness.

Also, a witness only works with:

  • A two-node cluster
  • A stretched cluster

As mentioned by thebobkin, 3 nodes is sufficient for R1. And sufficient for R5 with vSAN ESA.
