Is there a way to get the ip and hostname for the Guest without installing vmware tools?

As the title.

We are using vSphere 4, some user don't want to install VMware tools on the guest. Is there a way for the vCenter to get the ip and hostname for the guest?

Hi,

AFAIK the answer is NO.

The vmware tools are needed.

Hi,

you have to keep in mind installing the vmware tools in the virtual machine is a best practice.
